Bock Industries Helps Agricultural Producers Enhance Animal WelfareBock Industries’ captive bolt devices, including the TED and Zephyr product lines, bring high-technology humane euthanasia solutions to animal protein producers.
Bock Industries designs and manufactures captive bolt devices for euthanizing poultry and piglets. Efficient and instantaneous euthanasia and humane slaughter represent important aspects of animal welfare. Bock Industries’ captive bolt technology helps large and small agricultural producers achieve their respective animal welfare goals. These scientifically tested products support euthanasia guidelines of the AVMA and established animal welfare audit programs based on the requirements of retailers worldwide. The TED device is deployable in a poultry house as it is completely self-contained. TED is powered by a small compressed propane canister capable of delivering 1,000 stunning operations at a cost of 1 cent each. The device has been successfully evaluated by Pennsylvania State University on mature 40-pound turkeys down to 4-pound chickens. In a publication, Dr. R. Michael Hulet characterized the TED as “ergonomic, light and efficient.” The device produced instantaneous anesthesia, absence of nictitating membrane response in under two seconds and 100 percent death within a minute. The Zephyr devices are powered by compressed air and are intended for piglet euthanasia and small plants processing specialty fowl for “local and organic” production. The Zephyr EXL model contributes to a high standard of welfare and aesthetics required for this market. Both the TED and Zephyr devices are user-friendly, safe to operate and result in instantaneous insensibility. They are fully field-tested in U.S. and international applications. All Bock Industries’ devices and equipment are compliant with AVMA, EU1099, CFIA and OSHA standards and specifications.
