TED Demonstration
o Subject: 45 lb turkey
o Targeting: The TED is located on the subject: top of the head and midway between the eyes and ears.
o Arming: The TED transitions from "SAFETY" to "READY", by slight contact pressure.
o Firing: The finger operated trigger ignites the fuel and drives the bolt to the subject in 0.001 sec.
o Stunning: Effective stunning renders the subject immediately unconscious, no pain is felt. There are many physical indicators of insensibility including: 1) the clonic and tonic phase convulsions, resulting from the brain stem and spinal reflexes, and 2) the subject's inability to raise the head; both are shown in the video. The TED stunner causes irreversible damage and the subject does not recover.
o Only a trace amount of blood visible resulted from the stun, however, massive brain damage was shown during postmortem examination as a further confirmation of irreversibility.
o The techniques depicted in the video are accurate, however, procedures for using the TED differ slightly by location. Since the video was made for demonstration, the Targeting, Arming, and Firing are performed in 10 seconds; whereas production facilities will perform the same tasks in 2 seconds.
